Tcholaria Igor

Igor Tcholaria was born in 11/9 1959 in the small town Ochamchiry at the coast of the Black Sea. He started to draw in pencil at school and displayed the strong gift. Local artist advised him to enter to Sukhumy art school - one of the best in the country for that period of time. He finished it in 1976. In the same year he left Abkhasia for Leningrad and entered Mukhina Academy of Art.

After he graduated from Academy for three years he workd as a teacher of drawings in school and then became a free artist doing his living by making portraits in the streets. In the Soviet Union such activity was illegal so many times artist had problems with police. When perestroika came the situation changed. The artist cultivated his own original stile and was invited for the cooperation by biggest gallery of St.Petersburg Palitra and Alla Buljanskaja gallery from Moscow. Art-dealer from Italy arranged the exhibition of the young artist in Pecenca. BBC made a documentary about his life. His meeting with the owner of the Robinsons gallery from Belgium played important role in his career. During many years this gallery is doing his solo shows in Belgium and other countries. Robinsons also published the artbooks, following the development of the artist during last 20 years. The owner of the faimous gallery the friend of the royal family Roy Miles showed Igor works in his gallery on the Bruton Stret in London. Last years Igor is very activ in his cooperation with Marc Peet Visser Gallery from The Netherlands. In the books published by Marc Visser you can find the works of the artist of the last period of time.

His paintins are in the private collections all over the world, including Pavarotty, John Galliano, the NHL superstar Alex Mogilny. We can find his works in the collections of Philips and Samsung companies.
